We are deeply saddened on hearing the tragic news that our good friend and former colleague, retired P.C. Volney Welch passed away in Barbados yesterday, Monday 14th April 2025. Volney joined the Bermuda Police in March 1975 at which time he attended Basic Training Course No 19.

Volney served in the BPS in a variety of departments, including as a Parish Constable, and he had the distinction of being the first officer to be awarded the Rotary Club’s “Constable of the Year” Award in 1997 for his “high personal motivation, continuing support of the Police Service, and conscientious acts within the community, working closely with many charitable institutions including the Sunshine League and Hope Homes." Volney served in the BPS for 29 years before he retired in 2006, following which he spent 9 years as the civilian Vetting Coordinator for the Police Service from 2007 - 2016. He later worked as a security officer at the Fairmont Southampton.
We offer our sincere condolences to Volney’s wife Ianthia and to his family and many friends. We will publish further details of funeral arrangements as soon as we receive them.
