Unfortunately we can’t find his file in the old register at Police HQ so we don’t have his warrant card photo or details of his postings etc.

 

However, we know that he was a popular and well liked young man who played on our Police football team.

 

 

 

 

Glyn  was also the recipient of the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct, after Glyn and Davie Kerr tackled a man armed with two guns after reports of gunshots being fired. The two officers chased and stopped the suspect who, on being approached , drew a gun. He was tackled by the two officers and his gun went off as he fell to the ground. Both officers were injured during a violent struggle, with the suspect subdued only after more police officers arived at the scene. Glynn and Davie was both hospitalised overnight.

 

 

 

 

 

On a “lighter” note, during the time he worked in Traffic, Glynn was said to be worried about going prematurely grey – and decided to dye his hair. Unfortunately, the mixture turned his hair bright orange, and the late Howard “Stumpy” Kirkham took one look at him and said, “Christ bye, what did you dye your hair with? Clorox”? – and Glynn was known as “Bleachy” from that day forth!

 

 

 

 

Glynn will always be fondly remembered by those who knew him and worked with him, and he attended several of our ExPo reunions held in the U.K.
