Young P.C. Miguel Medford in the birdcage
Extract from photo of Front Street taken by Daved Anderton

We have had a request from a gentleman by the name of David Anderton who used to live and work here in Bermuda who is trying to contact our good friend and colleague, Miguel Medford who served here from 1979 to 2008.

We are keen to contact Miguel and would appreciate any assistance in making contact with him.  We believe he may now be residing in Barbados.

Just to put Miguel’s mind at rest, David was an avid photographer who worked here in advertising and design, and he took a photograph of a Front Street scene with Miguel on duty in uniform in the birdcage.  He asked at the time if Miguel would agree to him using the image commercially and Miguel said he was happy for him to do so, and gave his name and badge number to David.

Now, some 30 years later David is in the process of producing a book of high quality photographic images, including the photo of Front Street with Miguel in the birdcage,  and he would like to make contact with Miguel to re-confirm his approval.  He would also like to present Miguel with a framed copy of the photo as a thankyou gift.

I have to wonder how many photos have been taken over the years of “Bobbies in the Birdcage”.  Since it was first completed in 1962 it was said that bobbies in the birdcage were among the most photographed police officers in the world.  CLICK HERE for our extensive article on the history of the Bobbies in the Birdcage including who designed it and the reason why it was called the “birdcage”.

If you can provide contact details for Miguel please let us know at info@expobermuda.com
